A few months ago, I shared at length about my thoughts on inclusion and employer benefits. I ended that post with a next step; seeking a team that could have me as a contractor or independent consultant.

And today, I want to share an update that I have been taking steps to move towards a different model of engaging my clients and teammates. A core part of this experiment is becoming an indepedent consultant and leaving ThoughtWorks (TW). TW has been for me a community of very passionate technologists that I have had the privilege of working with and learning from over the past 8.5 years.

While at TW, I have worked with about 11 clients on some 15 or so projects/products delivering each of those with some success. I have lived in 3 countries, working and visiting about 13 TW Offices and got to make some life long friends. It’s been a journey beyond what I expected when I signed up in June 2013 to “try this consulting thing for a year”. I am grateful it took a little longer than a year and for everyone who I met along the way for journeying with me.

I’ll start off this experiment in Indepedent Consulting with a community of some of the best people I worked with while at TW and a number of other amazing technologists at Greyshore Associates. Connecting with Greyshore is the simplest way to engage me right now. As I find my footing, I will explore more ways I can engage with the community and as before will continue to share stories here.

And so it begins.
